We finally went on The Red Bus Tour, operated by CitySiteSeeing Cape Town. My son had been nagging since Summer to go on the bus and because it is quite pricey, I decided to treat him for his birthday. Since making the promise, I learnt that The Red Bus Tour – CitySiteSeeing has a Kids Club for children to sign up to. They receive a voucher for their birthday. Vouchers allow three children with the purchase of an adult ticket to ride on the Red or Blue Tour Routes.
The Red Bus Tour Bus
We decided to take the Blue Tour Route as it’s a nice two and half hour ride around the peninsula. Arriving at the V&A Waterfront early, we found parking across the road from the first Bus Stop. Our vouchers were exchanged for tickets at the CitySiteSeeing office and we got on the first bus of the day. Earphones were given with our tickets to listen to the on-board tour, which is offered in plenty of languages and a children’s channel. The earphones however were not comfortable for children.
The Red Bus Tour Stops
The Red Bus Tour buses stop at popular destinations like Kirstenbosch gardens, World of Birds, Hout Bay Harbour, Camps Bay, Seapoint Promenade and the Waterfront. Since my son doesn’t like walking any distance, we opted to get off at the Hout Bay Harbour. We stretched our legs and had an ice cream. I would have liked to have gone to the Imizamo Yethu township tour though.
The Red Bus Tour staff were really friendly. We were allowed to take our own snacks. The on-board tour information was interesting. You can get more information for the Kids Club here.
