The Power of Now
The Power of Now.
This has been one of the hardest books I have brought myself to read. Starting it over for the third time, I was determined to finish reading the book. Why? Because whenever I’m Googling “Happiness” ideas and theories, it always comes up as a suggested read. Even Oprah recommends it. Well it took me a little over a week to read, although I’m sure the author could have easily have explained everything I understood the book to be, in two short chapters. I just felt that I was reading the same thing over and over just with other words. Eckhart tries to explain that the pain caused in our lives are created by the mind and we need to learn how to switch off the mind by living in the present moment. Not thinking back to the pain which causes sadness or depression and not looking to the future which causes worry, stress and fear. He explains how to go about shutting down the voice of the mind but I really struggled to get it done. I still feel and think logically this voice of my my mind is feeding me valuable information. While I’m aware of what he said, I just don’t see the practicality of it all.
